Welcome to the Affective & Clinical Neuroscience Lab! We use neuroscientific methods to examine order and disorder in the emotional brain. Specifically, we use behavioral techniques, neurophysiology, and both structural and functional neuroimaging to study the neural mechanisms through which the brain generates both approach (e.g., reward) and avoidance (e.g., threat, fear) emotional states. We then aim to translate our understanding of the basic mechanics of emotion in the brain to the investigation of emotional disorders defined broadly, including depression, anxiety, and mania.
